BIOGRAPHY

Maute's work is a visual dance in celebration of Nature's diversity and resilience. Fragments of abstract plant and animal forms collide, interconnect, and transform in a fluid dreamlike space. An improvisational artist, Maute edits and layers imagery, leaving a visual record of her process. The interplay of color, paint and mark continue to fascinate the artist and produce work that is visually complex and open to interpretation.

A graduate of Daemen University in Buffalo, NY with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Maute earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

A resident of Bellingham, WA, Maute has a studio at Bay Street Village overlooking the historic Old Town district. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is in many private and public collections, including the Yellowstone Art Museum and Missoula Art Museum (see resume page). She continues to grow as an artist, expanding her knowledge through workshops, travel and experimentation.

Maute has worked at a variety of art-related positions. For many years she shared her working process through the state-sponsored artist-in-residence programs in Montana, North Dakota, Idaho, and Washington States. In 2017, she retired from her 28-year career in museum education. Having been exposed to the fabulous collection at the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY as a young artist, Maute takes great pleasure in inspiring creativity and artistic appreciation in others.
